RECREATION
Alexandria offers a wide variety of recreational opportunities for all individuals.
BEULAH PARK on State Road 9, offers 16 acres of recreational choices to suit most any age. The swimming pool/bathhouse complex includes a wading pool, lap pool, low diving board and a 109-foot water slide.
Beulah Park also has basketball courts and 2 tennis courts, both paved and lighted for night play. Two sand volleyball courts are also lighted, as are the competition horseshoe pits.
In use almost 24 hours a day is a paved 0.6-mile track around the perimeter of the Park. Used by both serious fitness walkers/joggers and those who prefer a pleasant stroll, the path is kept cleared of snow in winter to provide year-round access.
Shaded picnic tables and two large pavilions make Beulah Park a favorite for family reunions and other outdoor events. Due to high demand during the summer months, tables can be reserved in advance for a small fee by calling the park office at phone .
Those looking for lively action that wont require personal involvement can find it at the BABE RUTH AND LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL COMPLEX on West Tyler Street.

FESTIVALS
THE MADISON COUNTY 4-H FAIR is held the 3rd week in July at Beulah Park and the adjacent 4-H Fairgrounds. Sponsored since 1942 by the Alexandria Kiwanis Club, the seven-day fair offers the usual project judging , a wide variety of commercial exhibits, outstanding food and nightly stage entertainment.
THE SMALL TOWN, USA FESTIVAL is held in Beulah Park the first weekend in October. Originally held downtown, the eight-year-old fair has grown to equal the 4-H Fair in ability to attract crowds. An extensive display of Aladdin Glassware and lamps, once manufactured in Alexandria, draws both former Aladdin employees and antique collectors. Highlights of the festival are craft exhibitors, entertainment and car show.

A DICKENS CHRISTMAS, Traditional Small Town Christmas Parade kicks off the Christmas season in downtown Alexandria. Santa and Mrs. Claus arrive in town. Community Caroling sponsored by the Gaither Family Resources in Harrison Square Park follows the Parade. First Saturday in December sponsored by the Alexandria-Monroe Chamber of Commerce.

An off-site facility, Alexandria Medical Arts Building and Diagnostic Center, is located at 1650 State Road 9 South. This building is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 6 pm. Thomas Owens, MD and Troy Abbott, MD are the practicing family physicians. ST. JOHNS HEALTH SYSTEMS
Saint Johns Alexandria Health Center provides Alexandria residents with access to a primary-care physician, laboratory and X-ray services. The physician office is open Monday through Friday, 7:30am to 4:30 pm. Patients are seen by appointment. Laboratory and X-ray facilities are accessible from 7 am to 4 pm, Monday through Friday. No appointments are necessary for these diagnostic services. The center is closed daily from 12:30 to 1:30 pm.

POINTS OF INTEREST
Alexandrias history is preserved with photos and relics from earlier years at the Alexandria Historical Society, 313 North Harrison Street. The Society also features a genealogical section under the direction of historian Nancy Draper, .
Renovated in 1989, the Alexandria-Monroe Public Library was given to the city by Andrew Carnegie in 1903. In addition to 33,008 volumes, the library offers videocassette films, records, cassettes, microfiche and microfilm news banks, and a computer for the public word-processing use. The childrens department features three computers equipped with learning game software. The integrity of the original design was maintained during the renovation, making the library modern and well-equipped, as well as one of the citys most beautiful buildings at 117 East Church Street

Veterans Monument Memorial Plaza
The Veterans Monument Memorial Plaza, located in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, State Road 9, was dedicated in 1990. At the base of the grey granite monument are hundreds of red granite bricks, each inscribed with the name of an Alexandria or Monroe Township veteran.
BUDS BARN
Buds Barn, located in River View on Alexandrias south side, is the result of an overgrown personal collection of Aladdin glass, antiques and memorabilia from Alexandrias past. When Bud Maynards collection grew too large for his home, he and his wife Minnie created Buds Barn and opened the doors for everyone to enjoy. A complete antique soda fountain, a nostalgic living room setting, over 1,110 pieces of Aladdin glass, cut glass, jewelry and you-name-it invite visitors to revisit the good times of yesteryear.
