How to make your site

It's time to make your web site!
If you type in your domain name (www.your-name.com) in your web browser, you should see a page that comes up that says SITE UNDER CONSTRUCTION.  If you don't, try typing in your IP address, such as http://208.56.91.169/  You can get your IP address in email from us.  If your IP address works but your domain doesn't, then your domain activation or domain transfer is not complete and you should see an Under Construction Page.

Now, you can access your site via the IP address or the domain, but how do you get web pages there?  Here are four options to consider:  One thing to remember is that all web page files and images should be uploaded into your /www directory.

Option 1) Use the Free Site Creation Tool that comes with your DOMONCO Hosting Account.  It's surprisingly easy and powerful. Includes 1000's of free clip-art images.  To use it, first log in to your Control Panel and click on the icon shown here.  To see a live site created with the tool, click HERE.

Option 2) Buy user-friendly site editing software. Of the four options, this is the most attractive option. We recommend Microsoft FrontPage 2000. (On a tight budget, see if you can get a used copy of FrontPage 98 at www.ebay.com) This software allows a beginner or an experienced designer to create AND maintain their site without specialized knowledge of web page design.

If you want to design and/or maintain your own web site, but don't want to spend days or weeks learning web page programming, this is the choice for you.

After you have the software, ask about our FrontPage help section before starting.

Option 3) Hire a web designer. This is the easiest but most expensive option. A web designer will design your site and upload it to the DOMONCO Servers. We recommend this if you are willing to spend $250-$750 on site design and you want a polished Internet presence. If your site is basically a brochure that won't change, this option is more desirable.

Option 4) Use a freeware web page editor and FTP software. Consider this if you either enjoy learning new software programs and want full control over the programming of your site OR if you are on a budget of $0.
